Eagleton Ridge presents "Bronzewing" providing respite accommodation for people with low to high needs. Nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac adjacent to a wonderful park with a walking path that goes through the bushland to the football fields and sporting complex. Our beds are all HiLo beds to enable us to adjust the height of the bed for individual clients. All linen is supplied including continence bedding. We also have lifting equipment, shower chairs, mobile bed bath and wheelchair vehicles for outings and activities. The house has ducted air-conditioning so stays nice and cool in summer and cosy warm in winter. The house is all one level with ramps at the front door and back door for easy and safe access into the house and out into our great outdoor enclosure and then out into the back yard. The house is in Raymond Terrace with easy access to bowling, swimming pool, movies, parks and still close to Newcastle and Nelson Bay for great outings. The house has 2 huge bathrooms which are also fully wheelchair accessible and 5 huge bedrooms. There are 3 single rooms and 2 shared bedrooms. There are 2 lounge rooms with big screen TV's, DVD's and WII consoles. A big open plan kitchen lends itself to everyone having a go at cooking.
We offer shared and private room accommodation. Our shared rooms have up to two people occupying each of the rooms. We have the ability to offer up to 3 private rooms. People who share rooms must be of the same sex and of similar natures so that everyone gets on well. Most of the rooms have built in wardrobes but if no built in then drawers and wardrobes are supplied. When necessary we have visual and audible monitors for use for those clients who may need assistance at night.
The main living areas are the kitchen and lounge/dining room. The house is an open plan which allows everyone to interact and be social. We have a huge kitchen as we do most of our own cooking which is open to the dining and lounge area. Everything from books to arts and crafts, music, toys and puzzles and games are available for everyone for those quiet times at the house.
We have 2 bathrooms with 2 toilets. Both bathrooms have fold down rails around the toilets and near the showers for safety and stability. Both bathrooms are disability friendly with jobless and screen less showers, great safety rails around shower walls and the toilet.
The outdoor enclosure is fantastic being fully screened to keep the nasty mozzies and flys at bay but giving a great area for BBQ's and outdoor relaxation.
Our Activity Centre is off the back of our old shed at the farm. It is fully airconditioned and has gas heating for winter. Many hours are spent creating wonderful items for our guests to achieve and take home for gifts. Some of these items have a small charge on them to cover the costs of the materials eg Swarovski Crystal beads. We do not make a profit of the crafts but we do need to cover the costs of the materials. We do try to have a high focus on recycled materials and whenever possible we try to use recycled materials.
There is only one room in the house which is out of bounds to our guests and that is our office and staff bedroom. Generally our guests are very respectful of our areas but on the odd occasion when we need to we keep the door closed.
We have a wonderful companion dog who was a rescued Greyhound. Her name is Nellie and she has the most wonderful nature. She is quiet and gentle but is a tad lazy as well! She likes nothing more than to veg out in her bed or on a lounge chair being patted and cuddled.
Slowly but surely Bronzewing is becoming a loved destination for all of our participants - long term and new.
